• open any image in Vsco app
  • crop the image to 2:3 format
  • add your saved recipe
  • increase the exposure
  • change the white balance to remove the warm glow from the light
  • use dodge and burn tool to brighten the face and the lights
  • change the white balance to even cooler
  • use blur circular tool - place it over the face and reduce the effect for slightly more subtle look

  • I have blurred the top of the image using linear blur to make it look even more surreal and to force the viewer's eyes to focus on the subject.

  • Blur tool works great if you have light bulbs, fairy lights, etc as part of the image - it creates a nice artistic effect. I have also blurred most of the image to again force the viewer's eye to look at the subject.

  • Here's another example of how to use blur to hide the imperfections in the background. The frames on the wall in my living room are slightly wonky ( my daughter uses the sofa as a trampoline ;-) ) so to hide it I have used the linear blur tool.
